“Kurdish Institute for Elections –KIE” is an independent, voluntary and nonprofit organization which is formed from by a group of lawyers in the Middle of 2002 in Sulimanya.

KIE attemts to incorporation of elections as both of concept and process with the political, social and administrational fields in Kurdistan particularly and Iraq in general.

Objectives of the Institute:

- Raise the awareness of the people of the election concept and develop the legal system of the election on the country level.

- Strengthen the democracy tradition and deepen culture of forgiveness each other acceptance among the different Iraqi ethnics’ religions and sects.

- Enhance the people for political participation in decision making and protecting the civic and political rights.

- Aware the people with the democracy values and develop the civil society.

Transparency and accountability as KIE’s principles

1. There is seasonally meeting for board of trustee for reviewing finance, activities and evaluating management board.

2. KIE annually publishes its report on financial recourses and expenses in its website and in local newspapers after reviewing it by the board of trustee members and the management board members.

Structure: 

KIE has two councils:

- board of trustee which is volunteer board, they participate in making policy and strategy of work and they review the projects and finance , beside they are the decision makers for any conflicts between the management board .they meet every three month. KIE’s council of trustees members are:
